ToPPiC bringing technology to life

Key-point

Successful technology adoption (like implementing Sqorz and/or transponder based timing) is a holistic effort involving many elements. It's not just about the technology.

ToPPiC

There are four crucial elements to technology adoption: Technology, Process, People, Communication. A common oversight is to focus solely on the Technology part and overlook the other key items.

Process
People
i
Communication

Time spent working on all the elements will provide the best chance of success for technology adoption.

Technology Technology

What is the technology and how does it work?

  • The Engine: The core system, the platform, the tools.
  • The Innovation: The smart features, the capabilities, the data.

In this case the technology is Sqorz with MYLAPS hardware for timing (also Race Manager for USA and Canada BMX).

Process Process

What are the processes that underpin the technology?

  • The Blueprint: The clear steps, the structured workflow, the logical sequence.
  • The Path: The defined journey from start to finish, guiding action.
  • The Flow: The seamless movement of tasks and information.

Take the time to step through the scenarios, agree in advance on key decision points and how to manage common situations that will arise.

People People

Who are the people involved?

  • The Users: The heart of the system, the hands that operate, the minds that innovate.
  • The Learners: Those adopting new ways, growing skills.
  • The Operators: The individuals who make it all work.

Identify the people involved in the process, ensure the right people are in the right role.

Communication Communication

What is the communication plan?

  • The Voice: Clear instructions, shared insights, open dialogue.
  • The Network: Connecting ideas, spanning gaps, ensuring understanding.
  • The Understanding: Ensuring clarity, feedback, and alignment.

It's important that all People understand how these elements are going to work together. Write things down and distribute. Obtain agreement from the Operators that they comprehend, and will work with, the Process and the Technology. Provide clear instructions to the people using or learning the system. Use social media, handouts, posters, emails and word-of-mouth. Remember Communication is the glue that holds all this together.

Change

Change can be challenging however, addressing each of these elements will help make your technology implementation professional and pain free. The end result is definitely worth the effort.
